Popular Australian Curriculum Books
One of the most impactful Australian curriculum books of recent years has been Growing up Aboriginal in Australia. It is an anthology compiled by award-winning author Anita Heiss, which aims to highlight as many stories and experiences as possible. It can be an eye-opener for young Australians who might not be aware of the full extent of how different life has been for many Aboriginals – some of which are well-known, high-profile Australians.
For younger learners, Blueback is a beautiful introduction to conservation and caring about the environment. It’s the story of an Australian boy called Abel Jackson who lives by the sea and dives with his mother every day, eventually meeting Blueback, a huge fish. When developers come knocking, he and his mother must work to protect their piece of coastline.

Another Australian textbook is the English Skills Builder 1, which is designed for students aged 11 – 13. It covers three English strands; language, literacy, and literature, and is the ideal preparation for students going through NAPLAN testing. Plus, this release also includes a question section, with answers provided as a tear-out section at the back for easy self-testing.
