Dancing with Strangers is Inga Clendinnen's seminal account of the moment in January 1788 when the First Fleet arrived in Sydney Harbour and a thousand British men and women, some of them convicts and some of them free, encountered the Australians living there. About the Author

Inga Clendinnen is an acclaimed scholar of Mayan and Aztec cultures. Her book Reading the Holocaust won the NSW Premier's History Award and was chosen as one of the best books of 1999 by the New York Times.
