It's just too hard to make it anymore
Is it? What IS an undeniable, irrefutable, and unfortunate fact is that if you want to "make it" in today's chaotic and contentious world, you simply are going to have to do more. You're going to have to read more, learn more, know more, invest more, train more, experience more, socialize more, think more and yes, work more. That's because with up to 30% of all US jobs projected to be automated by 2030 and 60% of jobs to be significantly changed by AI, robots and other types of automation - and more US jobs replaced by less-expensive workers in other countries - the American standard of living may never been in a more precarious position since the country's founding.
they had it easier, but we have it better
Did our parents and grandparents have it better, or easier? Consider that average household income today is 4 times higher than 1980, poverty rates have plummeted, 30% of the population graduate college, and people live twice as long than a century ago. In fact, by nearly any measure or statistic we live a far richer, safer, and healthier life than in any generation before us. They had it easier, but we have it far better.
It takes imagination, guts and hard work
That is the lesson in in this book: it WILL be more challenging for some, if not many, to "make it" but we still live in a world where anyone, anywhere CAN make it, no matter the generation, no matter the country, no the century. It takes imagination, guts and hard work to get there...and then you have to take the shot.
