The Yak Pack

Based on Science of Reading research, The Yak Pack Comics is a series of beginner readers that builds foundational literacy skills in students of a broad age range and abilities.

The entire series includes five phonics comic books and five sight word comic books. These decodable beginner readers can be used as a stand-alone program or with other research-based programs (Tier 1, 2, 3) and are ideal for K-2 students, special education students, and English Language Learners. Each story is a complete lesson targeting the five pillars of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension) while facilitating daily lesson planning.

The Yak Pack provides a thorough and engaging learning experience, captivating students with dynamic graphics, quirky recurring characters, and fully developed hilarious storylines.

The Yak Pack is officially aligned with the UFLI Foundations Scope & Sequence (University of Florida Literacy Institute) and can be found in their Decodable Text Guide. The Yak Pack is also included in the Reading League's Decodable Text Resources List.

The second comic book in the series features 6 fully decodable stories that each practice a different digraph sound as well as comprehension and phonological awareness practice after each story. Sounds practiced:

1. Story 1: CH
2. Story 2: SH
3. Story 3: TH
4. Story 4: "Fizzle" sounds: FF, SS, ZZ, LL
5. Review story for all digraphs
