The Virtual Embodied brings together artists, designers, critics and performers to explore the relationship between human presence, reflection and action in an increasingly technological world. It interweaves creative practice and cutting-edge theory to uncover the ethical, aesthetic and ecological implications of why, how, and especially, where and when, human deeds, insights and observations take place. It problematizes the power which we imagine virtual space to have, and considers the extent to which virtuality can encompass and enhance human wisdom. The contributors spotlight a number of different ways in which human presence is insinuated within technology. They explore such areas as colonialism and the Internet, the virtual unconscious in electronic systems, theatre as virtual space, 'information' and the capitalist society, ecstatic bodies and the rave scene, desire and the 'virtual comfort' zone. John Wood, Goldsmiths College, Victor Jeleniewski Seidler, Goldsmiths College, John Monk, Open University, Max Velmans, Goldsmiths College, Andy Goffey Damien Keo
