From personal reflections on the connection between architecture and activism to working with the material earth and with Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh: German architect Anna Heringer seeks to highlight situations, people, challenges and solutions that are often not given enough attention. This book presents her contemplations on light in its many forms - discussing the interplay of clay, textiles and natural light as well as the philosophical concepts of light and hope. Heringer's reflec- tions as one of the pioneers of sustainable architecture are accompanied here by her work with the women of Dipdii Textiles, whose embroidered sari blankets serve as a common thread throughout the book. AUTHOR: Anna Heringer (*1977) is a German architect and honorary professor of the UNESCO Chair of Earthen Architecture, Building Cultures, and Sustainable Development. Since 1997, she has been actively involved in development cooperation in Bangladesh. Through her work with the NGO Dipshikha, Heringer has gained much experience in the field of sustainable development work. Under- standing architecture as a means to improve lives, she transfers her philosophy into her architectural praxis. Heringer has received numerous honors and her work has been widely published and exhibited in places such as the MoMA New York, the V&A in London and the Venice Biennale. 120 illustrations
