In 1926 at a tradesmen's camp in the middle of nowhere, some keen footballers met in 'Big Jim' Welsh's tent to form their own club. They called it Eastlake. A couple of years later, other men, who were in Canberra to help build the first homes and roads - and Parliament House - founded another team: Manuka. In Kick it long, Keith Miller traces the story of these two great clubs and the characters who made them. It's the story of their fierce rivalry during the years when Australian football was king in the national capital. It's the story of how footy and Canberra changed and how Eastlake and Manuka became a single footy club ...and a vibrant community organisation. About the Author Keith Miller has a long and highly distinguished association with the Eastlake Football Club and Australian rules football in the Australian Capital Territory. He is a club premiership captain and coach, multiple club best and fairest winner and a two-time Mulrooney Medalist for best player in the ACT competition. Keith has worked in management positions with the NSW/ACT RAMS and the Eastlake Football Club. He is a member of the ACTAFL's Team of the Century and Hall of Fame. Keith and Jeanette have two daughters, Anna and Renee. Few people in the history of the Eastlake Football Club have such a demonstrated level of service and passion for the club as that displayed by Keith over many years. For many associated with the club, this book completes his legacy.
