Lunar Cycle

I'd recommend Debris Dreams to those who loved Ender's Game.
Drusilla Zhao’s character was a complete win for me and she was far more endearing than Andrew Wiggin. I also liked the bits of Mandarin and the addition of aspects of Chinese-American culture. All in all, it was a fun and adventure-filled read.

Drusilla, a girl raised on a space station, lives in a in a time where the crowded Earth must mine resources from asteroids and the moon. When the moon secedes from Earth with an act of violent terrorism to an elevator rising into the stratosphere, Drusilla loses her parents and is conscripted into the oncoming war.

The best elements of the novel are the combat scenes, many of which feature young Space Marines fighting out in the black in power armor. These scenes are simply stunning.
Colby has packed a primer in space habitat sociology, a convincing space-borne war story, a charming coming of age narrative, and a tale of the ultimate in sucky long-distance relationships, into a brisk-reading microgravity adventure.

The life in space and all the gritty space marine stuff really reminded me of the show Battlestar Galactica. This was quite the exciting reading and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a gritty YA space adventure.

This is book is full of science, space, and one truly long-distance relationship. Dru is a great character because she feels so relatable. There is plenty of intrigue and some definite politics in play. The ending is done well and makes you wonder what could be next for these characters.

Add David Colby’s Debris Dreams to the list of “WTF, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?” books. Part Ender’s Game, part Firefly…I loved it.

There was something wonderful about this book. Dru is an amazing girl with a whole crap-load of the universe dumping on her. I recommend this book for readers that love space adventures, soldiers with rebellious streaks, and a love for things in constant motion.
