Going back to 2003, the annual Ambient Intelligence conference has est- lished a well-recognized academic and industrial community. The ?rst Ambient Intelligenceconferencepresentedaprogrambuiltaroundfourthemes:ubiquitous computing,contextawareness,intelligence andnaturalinteraction.Re?ectingthe evolution of the Ambient Intelligence vision, this year's conference included - ditional themes such as assisted living, methods and tools,and applications and studies. These AmI 09 proceedings include the latest research into technologies and applications that enable and validate the deployment of the Ambient Intel- gence vision. With 21 full papers and 10 short papers, these proceedings provide a good insight into the state-of-the art of Ambient Intelligence research and development.
