Whisper My Name

When a child is born, their eye's focus is limited to within 12 inches. That distance doubles over the first few months as the faces on those that hold them come into view. Their knowledge of the world extends no further than those arms and faces.

In this short poem, a baby girl makes sense of her brand new world, comprised solely of her parents love. In it, she wakes to her parents warm embrace and sleeps under their starry eyes. They are her sun and her moon. Their love is the air she breathes and carries the sweet whispers of her name as she begins to learn it herself. "Whisper my name" she reminds them, seeking the love and tenderness that comes along with that whisper, "I need to hear if from you."

Whisper My Name reflects on how precious a young child is and their reliance on their parents love. Every parent and grand parent knows the simple joy of earning a smile from a new born and providing the love and comfort that encourages them to trust fully, snuggle our embrace, and find peace.

We at the Elephant Cloud never worked harder to elicit that smile and provide that peace. As we prepared for the birth of our grand daughter, those thoughts inspired this soft little poem.
