TRUSTED ENEMY

Trusted Enemy grabs you right away & doesn't let go. I loved the way the author combines characters who feel real with a solid plot. Jess Logan is a memorable MC who is beautifully written, I really felt her pain. The pace moves along & not once did I feel like putting it down, it's totally binge-worthy. Trusted Enemy is another fantastic domestic thriller from Colleen Smith. The book tackles the confronting issues around Australia's family violence epidemic in a thoughtful way, with Smith expertly weaving the themes into a genuinely intriguing mystery. Despite the subject matter, the story never felt gratuitously violent. Instead, Smith explores the issues in a nuanced way through complex (and in some cases, fatally-flawed) characters. The story is in equal parts emotionally-weighty and entertaining - no mean feat, given the issues it covers. The pacing was excellent and the mystery kept me guessing; I was shocked by the twist, but it added up. A compelling, clever and suspenseful read. As with the first of Colleen Smith's books, I found this book intriguing from the first page. Domestic violence and Coercive control are such disturbing issues, whilst this is the main point of the book we are not taken down that rabbit hole. Trusted Enemy is another fabulously dark and twisted mystery from Colleen Smith. I loved the complicated cast of women, each fully fleshed out and realistically flawed, and made all the more real by the author's lived experience in the domestic violence space. There are characters here you'll love to hate too and there's something so satisfying about seeing them getting their dues.
