DEAR TRANSLATOR/INTERPRETER/STUDENT OF TRANSLATION:

  1. When the translation violates the definition of translation to the point where what is translated is not a true reflection of the "self", then, death ensues!
  2. This death can accrue either by "self-destruction", or, by an outside force!
  3. Intralingual Translation and Intersemiotic Translation are the normal realms of translation as you see in Genesis 11:1 (KJV) and in Genesis 11:6 (KJV), because both Types of Translation preceded the third Type of Translation, which is: Interlingual Translation.
  4. Interlingual Translation is an attempted solution to the corruption and confusion in the communication process as you see in Genesis 11:7-9 (KJV)!
  5. Therefore, Interlingual Translation came in only after the normal Intralingual Translation and Intersemiotic Translation processes became corrupted and confounded!
  6. As a result, whenever you do Interlingual Translation (translation between two or more languages), then, remember that, inherent in that process is its own linguistic deformities, language confusion, speech misunderstanding, and the entrenchment of divergent thoughts!
  7. Those linguistic deformities, language confusion, speech misunderstanding, and entrenched divergent thoughts in the multiplicity of languages are the root causes of the widely-accepted notion in Translation Academia that "there is no perfect translation"!
  8. The same phenomenon is the reason why you will obtain as many interlingual translations as there are as many translators who translate the same text!
  9. Therefore, Real Translation or Natural Translation is that which takes place within the same language (Intralingual Translation), whereas False Translation or Unnatural Translation is that which occurs between two or more languages (Interlingual Translation), and both translation processes are characterized by those communication obstacles that I have mentioned here above!
  10. Figures of speech such as simile, metaphor, and many others, are all forms of translation, because they rely on linguistic comparisons in order to generate transfer of thought and understanding!
  11. Now, take note very carefully, that in all Intersemiotic Translations, it is NOT the token, the symbol, or the non-verbal sign that is important, seeing that the token is only a vessel, a medium, a conduit, a channel, and a mode that holds and carries the real message/communication!

Industry Reviews

Dear Prof. Pryce,

I have read your abstract and even though I have not had the benefit of reading the whole work, I consider the work to be scholarly and contributory to previous works in the field of biblical Hermeneutics and Exegesis.

The message of the new methodology for Biblical interpretation proposed by Dr. Pryce, in my view, is: At the heart of Biblical interpretation is the Bible itself. The Q and A methodology assumes that it is impossible to interpret the Bible in isolation from the content of the Bible itself.

Thus the hermeneutical or interpretative questions posed by the Bible to the reader find their answers in the Bible itself and outside it.

I hope these few comments will do. Wish you all the best and blessings.
