When Burn Sullivant sees barrel racer, Riley Sanders, he stops himself from fantasizing over her, vowing he only wanted to win the roping event at his last High School Rodeo finals, not mix it with a girl. Later, walking to his assigned stall, his rope horse shoved him into her, causing him to catch her in his arms. She was even better looking close up than he imagined, and he didn't want to let her go.
Riley was shy, but the cowboy's dark eyes shook her to the core. Tall and an eyeful of handsome, it felt right having his muscular arms around her. Though she'd avoided boys for a long time, this man was someone she could not push away.
Having the feeling he'd not be able to forget her, he asked her out for lunch while they waited for the next performance to begin. At the drive-thru, their emotions ran wild when he kissed her.

Riley expected to see a glimpse of him before the roping event, but he was nowhere to be seen. Worried that their brief encounter was a fluke, she prepared her mind for her fastest run; but when they called her name, she didn't make it to the first barrel.
Four years later, they meet again at a Fort Worth rodeo. Riley is determined not to be fooled again by any man and avoided speaking with him. Bound to meet again on the rodeo road, they meet in Waco, Fate steps in and Riley must turn to Burn for help.
How is Burn going to convince her, he still cares for her? Even though Riley is stuck in his company, she no longer has any interest in Burn. How will she ignore him?

Burn backed up a step to look at her fully and ran his fingers through her tangled hair, putting it behind her shoulders, caressing her skin. She shuddered, and his insides went weak when soft breasts moved against his chest. She could bark at him all she wished. But he was not running away.
Holding each other, standing braced against the wall, Riley's hands explored a strong back. Burn buried his face against her neck, taking in a bouquet of feminine aura mixed with sweat, shampoo, and horse. Before they separated, they kissed with urgency again. Riley became aroused when his tongue touched hers, and she almost wrapped her legs around his waist but settled for snuggling against him as close as possible.
