For Eastbourne guitar maker Jack Nevis, tomorrow is a foreign country. Yet today, living and working on the Osprey, a rust encrusted WW2 tugboat, are memories, safety, and home. Woken by the sound of a gunshot, Jack finds a body in his workshop and is immediately thrust into a world of dead Pharaohs, looted Nazi gold, and a damsel in distress, Nancy. Does Nancy really want to learn how to make a guitar? Or is she being coerced into to finding out if the much sought after falcon figurine of Horus and the Nazi gold are secreted somewhere on the Osprey? Chased from Eastbourne to the highlands of Scotland and back on their quest to find the falcon and gold, can Jack and Nancy keep one step ahead of those who seek the Falcon and gold for their own evil ends?

Industry Reviews

A good read. A page turning plot; the mystery unfolds and a romance blossoms including a John Buchan (39 steps) trip to the wilds of Scotland.

I have just finished reading this book and it is fabulous! I usually read books by authors like Ian Ranking, Lee Child, Peter James, etc. and this book compares very favourably with such well established authors. The story captured my attention right from the start and never lost my full interest. The characters are all very 'real' people and very believable. And as the story progresses, it is easy to empathise with some of the dilemmas they are facing. My only dilemma now is do I read 'The Penitent Heart' or 'Buchanan - .... The Bodies in the Marina' by the same author next

As a Sussex resident there is a touch of verisimilitude about this book that I like. Jack Nevis leading a quiet life as a guitar maker is dragged into the world of money, ne'er do wells and not knowing who he can trust. The lovely Nancy comes on board and with the possibility of romance we are off on a cracking adventure story. I like the centrality of the old Osprey tug boat along with the mobility of the story, Sussex , Scotland and down the west coast. Great stuff.
