An inspirational toolkit for solo living - full of sound, practical advice, warmth and humour.

Whether you view living alone as the ultimate compromise or the ultimate luxury, it presents daily challenges, such as cooking for one, organising a holiday, eating out alone, juggling finances, or trying not to succumb to the siren call of wine, Ugg boots and binge Netflix. And there are the less tangible tests that can ambush you, like nailing the octopus of loneliness to the wall, and holding your head high in a society where living alone is viewed (consciously or not) as synonymous with failure: the runner up prize.

Author Jane Mathews believes that to be truly content living alone, it pays to examine every aspect of life - relationships, health, home, finances, interests and spirituality - and then take action. No matter what your particular situation, there's something here for you. Jane provides the map and you choose the route to a more joyful, contented life.

About the Author

Not usually my thing but....

I borrowed this book from our library after I read a newspaper review which gave it a good rap. like so many other women I have found myself very suddenly living and facing a future living on my own. this book helped me through a particularly tough patch. Whilst everyone's situation is different there is much in this book for thought and moral support. Totally agreeing with and often laughing with suggestions offered its light hearted and practical format made it an easy and enjoyable read. I have already recommended to a couple of friends. I have since bought a my own copy for future reference.

What a great read.

This book was a nice surprise, I bought it on impulse, as a carer for my husband who has dementia, I often feel that I live alone there are many communication breakdowns. This book offers hope and practical advice to anyone who is or feels alone.

Just what I needed.

Great tips to live by.

I have recommended this book to many friends

'I live with myself', I have used this often since reading Jane's book, which I found very inspirational and thought provoking, I recently lost my husband and have been living with myself for six months now and found after reading this book I was doing O.K. and following many of Jane's suggestions. I have recommended The Art of Living.. to many friends, however they have to buy their own, I mean to read it again

A book everyone should read

The Art of Living Alone and Loving it by Jane Mathews is a cracking read from start to finish. Even if you dont live alone there are so many great tips and suggestions about life and living it well that i would encourage anyone to read it. I have now read it twice and continue to go back as there are so many great references to things from how to make 5 main meals out of one BBQ store bought chicken to managing finances and getting more organised. I actually now keep the book with me on my travels and refer to it and am gifting more to my friends
