The book will present a comparison of materials for photovoltaics, including both new materials based on organics, nanostructures and novel inorganics as well as developments of the more traditional materials, starting with an introduction and materials trends. In the first section limiting efficiencies of solar cells will be reviewed. The importance of characterization in assessing semiconductor and PV properties with particular emphasis on new techniques or new applications will be covered in Section 2. Sections 3 and 4 will address developments in bulk crystalline solid-state semiconductor materials and existing materials and approaches, respectively. Newer, including multi energy threshold devices and highly integrated structures, and third generation approaches will be presented in Section 5. Finally, there will be a summary and discussion of materials and materials trends as well as possible future directions and drivers.
