This is your backstage pass to the hidden side of the music industry - the tantrums, the fights, the tensions, the indulgence, the sex, the alcohol, the drugs. The roadies see it all, and now they are sharing their secrets.

Roadies are the unsung heroes of the Australian music industry. They unload the PAs and equipment, they set it all up, they make sure everything is running smoothly before, during and after the gigs. Then they pack everything up in the middle of the night, put it in the back of the truck and hit the road to another town - to do it all over again.

They know everything about the pre- and post-show excesses. They bear witness to overdoses, the groupies, the obsessive fans. They are part of - and often organise - all the craziness that goes on behind the scenes of the concerts and pub gigs you go to. From The Rolling Stones to AC/DC, Bob Marley to Courtney Love, Sherbet to The Ted Mulry Gang, INXS to Blondie - the roadies have seen it all. And now they're stepping onto the stage and talking.

The Roadies' Creed: If it's wet, drink it. If it's dry, smoke it. If it moves, **** it. If it doesn't move, throw it in the back of the truck.

Great Read

Great read, I thought it was going to be OK, a bit limited in it's scope but no, it's a great insight into the music industry and how (real) people react in life... a great overview of a time when folk just got on with their job and did it well. Highly recommended, I read in in 4 days..

Great read about the backline crew who make the stars shine!

Stuart Coupe again delivers rare insights into the Australian Music Industry. His experience across the industry shows here as he draws on a wide cross section of his musical acquaintances to deliver these insights into the unsung heroes of the music game. So much joy and passion is conveyed of those who probably couldn't happily seek employment anywhere else. Stuart tempers this seemingly utopian lifestyle with stories of terrible road accidents, loneliness, alcohol & drug dependence & just outright exhaustion. Delve deep into these true Australian stories of (should be) Music heroes, who more than anyone personify the classic "Rock'n'Roll I gave you all the best years of my life..." Cheers 😎

Real life people, doing the almost impossible -in real life

Despite the very few issues I had with this book, I found it hard to put down. A great travelling read at Xmas. You can receive an education about a world you have probably hardly seen. One of my few criticisms would be that this is very much an east coast perspective - mostly Sydney. Little about Melbourne or Adelaide/Perth. Maybe not so extreme there, the work a little easier, the venues not up so many flights. But read it and learn, and help stop roadies from dying so tragically by their own hand.

Roadies is a Great Read

I am a big music fan but was intrigued about the secret life behind the bands. I had no idea of the amount of work involved by the road crews and the characters that appear in this unseen world. Also interesting to hear of the lifestyle exploits of the teams as well as well as the ups and downs and the dangers to personal and mental health that this lifestyle can bring to participants. Definitely a great insight into the industry and each chapter dealing with a separate individual gives a tremendous understanding of the people and what they went and are going through on tour.

Good Insight on Entertainment Roadies

Well researched, and well written, on the roadside life of musical entertainers.
