A comprehensive guide for understanding and healing the immune system

• Explores how the immune system works holistically throughout the body

• Presents a practical materia medica of herbs and mushrooms to support the immune system and address immune patterns and conditions

• Explains how immune imbalances lead to chronic inflammation, excessive oxidation, and sub-oxidation, which are the root causes of modern disease

Challenging the fragmented approach to immunity in both modern medicine and holistic healthcare, herbalist Matthew Wood presents the immune system not as a collection of isolated cells and chemical signals, but as an integrated whole governed by patterns, connections, and memories that must be understood rather than suppressed.

Drawing on decades of clinical experience as an herbalist and his in-depth knowledge of traditional healing systems, Wood explores how the immune system works holistically throughout the body, from bone marrow at the core, to skin at the outermost edge. He shows how contemporary medical practices often overstimulate the adaptive immune system while weakening the innate one, leading to immune imbalance, chronic inflammation, excessive oxidation, and sub-oxidation, which are the root causes of modern disease. He also examines complex immune phenomena, including mast cell activation, cytokine signaling, fatty acid signal precursors, molecular chaperones, and T cell dysfunction.

Sharing a practical materia medica of herbs and mushrooms to support the innate immune system, Wood explores how to match herbs to immune constitutions and patterns, boost preventative cellular defenses, address inflammation, and strengthen the bone marrow, where immune cells and stem cells are created. Integrating modern immunology with traditional healing wisdom, the author reveals how to restore immune intelligence naturally and understand the immune system as it truly operates: as one unified, governing force of life.
