A dark, high-concept middle grade fantasy novel about a teddy bear who, together with a league of toy allies, must stage a rescue mission after a human child is kidnapped by an interdimensional monster.

Spark is a teddy bear. But she's also a warrior, and at night she fulfills her sacred duty: to protect the household from monsters. Spark's child Loretta is growing up, and mostly doesn't need her bear anymore. So Spark spends her days sitting on a shelf and daydreaming. But when a monster unlike any other descends on the quiet home, everything changes. Children are going missing, and the monster wants the girl next. Only Spark can stop it. To do so, she must call upon the ancient League of Ursus-a secret alliance of teddy bears who are pledged to protect their human friends.

Together with an Amazon princess doll and a sock monkey, the bears stand between our world and the one that lies beneath, where a child's worst fears come to life. It will be a heroic chapter in the history of the League... if they live to tell the tale.

About the Author

Robert Repino grew up in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. After serving in the Peace Corps, he earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College.
His fiction has appeared in The Literary Review, Night Train, Hobart, The Coachella Review, and more. He lives in New York and works as an editor for Oxford University Press. D’Arc follows the novel Mort(e) and the novella Culdesac in the War With No Name series.
