A coming of age story set against the lush backdrop of Katrina-ravished New Orleans.

After losing her father, April is forced to leave her home in Montgomery to live with her aunt Kate, a chef in New Orleans. Her mother abandoned her as a baby, and Kate is all she has left. While in New Orleans she meets Miles, a tour guide who leads her toward a shop and a house where her life as she knows it will be permanently changed. She uncovers her family's secret heritage and nearly loses everything in the process.

About the Author

An active member of the youth writing and film-study community, Sheila Sobel was recently nominated for the Allegra Johnson Prize in Fiction Writing. She lives in Beverly Hills with her husband, her dogs, and her cats. This is her first novel.
