The Darkness

The Darkness was originally written from 1991-1992 as the first half of a larger manuscript with frequent collaborator and general roustabout Brian Smith. The intended plan was to market two manuscripts titled The Darkness & The Light . Daar would write the first half of the fist manuscript ( The Darkness ) and Smith would write the second ( The Light ). They would then switch it up for the second volume. However the literary gods would laugh at the two fools with plans. Over the next year the first volume would make the literary rounds and cross the desks of every publisher that would take the time to read it. As time went by, and the folder of rejection notices grew fatter, the frustration over an unresponsive public would take it toll. Daar & Smith would scrap their idea of a second volume (although Daar had already written The Light for the second volume). Smith would go on to write his novel Transits and Daar would release The Darkness in a self-published chapbook at the end of 1993. In late 2008 Daar would revisit the title and re-release it under his own imprint 5th World Word in a newly typeset and reformatted trade paperback edition printed on heavy cream-colored acid free paper. He would also provide the illustrations. The companion volume, The Light, is set to be re-released in 2010.
