Taylor gives three examples of theological work which promotes historical change in favour of the poor. The first is storytelling, where the 'Story' (or narrative form of systematic theology) support those who seek to change the world for something better. Secondly, he discusses ways of doing social ethics and practical theology which contribute to coherent and compassionate social policy-making. His third example involves ways of being creative in the struggle against poverty which are compatible with Christian tradition and biblical witness.
One conclusion he reaches is that belief in people's potential is crucial. By choosing to believe that the world has possibilities, possibilities arise where otherwise they would not; by regarding the world as promising, and acting accordingly, it is filled with hope and promise.
