To provide a philosophy of approach to the surgical management of diseases of the orbit based on 37 years of experience of the primary author. Using a conceptual model, the authors will illustrate and describe the factors in decision making with regard to approaches to lesions anywhere in and surrounding the orbit. In addition to photographic and artistic illustrations, an on-line site will include case examples (~ 30) that demonstrate decision making for particular cases in all of the categories of surgical approaches. Related illustrated lectures on approach to orbital diagnosis, analysis of imaging, pearls and pitfalls in surgery, surgical technology, decompression and management of thyroid orbitopathy will be included. There will also be about 20?30 narrated videos of orbital surgery illustrating principles and specifics of techniques and approaches. These will range from 3?15 minutes in length. Many of the cases and videos will have some unique character based on the extensive and unusual practice of the primary authors, that illustrates the diversity and flexibility derived from the core approach in this textbook.
