Great read and adds background

4

The collection of short stories give a great insight into the character, Jack Reacher. It is almost as though the short stories were the background ideas the Lee Child came up with to develop Reacher's personality. All the stories are individually good, but together with the series of novels adds a new dimension.

Reacher Shorts Satisfy

If you like Lee Child's books, and/or are a fan of the thriller genre, this book is for you. Each story has all the action and violence of a full Jack Reacher novel and is just as satisfying, but in smaller bites. Ideal for that holiday read when you might get interrupted but want an action thriller to relax with in your down time.

"After 21 missions in 20 years no one can be in any doubt that messing up bad guys is what the ex-military policeman does best - and these 12 tall tales suggest he's been doing it all his life... Lee Child, like his creation, always knows exactly what he's doing - and he does it well. Time in his company is never wasted. The first three chapters of his next Reacher novel, The Midnight Line - due in November - leave you wanting more." -- Mark Sanderson Evening Standard "The Midnight Line...won't be published until early November. This collection of every short story Child has penned about the rootless Reacher will serve to keep any cravings at bay...True fans will love this." Irish Independent "If you ever wonder about the past of Jack Reacher - the action hero whose adventures shift millions - then get this collection of short stories. Including a new novella, the clever, twisty tales reveal that even the 13-year-old Reacher was a force to be reckoned with." Sunday Mirror

Lee Child

Lee Child was born in 1954 in Coventry, England, but spent his formative years in the nearby city of Birmingham. By coincidence he won a scholarship to the same high school that JRR Tolkien had attended. He went to law school in Sheffield, England, and after part-time work in the theatre he joined Granada Television in Manchester for what turned out to be an eighteen-year career as a presentation director during British TV's "golden age." During his tenure his company made Brideshead Revisited, The Jewel in the Crown, Prime Suspect, and Cracker.

But he was fired in 1995 at the age of 40 as a result of corporate restructuring. Always a voracious reader, he decided to see an opportunity where others might have seen a crisis and bought six dollars' worth of paper and pencils and sat down to write a book, Killing Floor, the first in the Jack Reacher series. Killing Floor was an immediate success and launched the series which has grown in sales and impact with every new instalment.

Lee has three homes - an apartment in Manhattan, a country house in the south of France, and whatever air-plane cabin he happens to be in while travelling between the two. In the US he drives a supercharged Jaguar, which was built in Jaguar's Browns Lane plant, thirty yards from the hospital in which he was born.

Lee spends his spare time reading, listening to music, and watching the Yankees, Aston Villa, or Marseilles soccer. He is married with a grown-up daughter. He is tall and slim, despite an appalling diet and a refusal to exercise.
