For nine extraordinary days, a kingdom lived with its dead king.
Following the death of King Oyo of Tooro, his body returned to the heart of the kingdom, where grief, tradition, royal ritual and questions about the future converged around Karuziika Palace.
Nine Days with the King takes the reader inside those final days of mourning: the waiting crowds, the vigils, the prayers, the royal household, the ancient customs and the deeply human moments surrounding a king whose life had begun in the international spotlight as the world's youngest reigning monarch.
But even as Tooro mourned, another question could no longer be avoided: what happens to a kingdom when the king at its centre is gone?
Written with the immediacy of unfolding history and the atmosphere of a cinematic drama, Book VI of After the World's Youngest King captures the extraordinary passage between death, farewell and the beginning of succession.
Nine days. One palace. One king awaiting his final journey. A kingdom preparing to let go.
