Mental Health Care in the European Community (1985) is a study of the developments and constraints in the mental health policies of the full-member states of the European Community. Discussion is largely devoted to issues in the Sixties, Seventies and early Eighties, although the contributors have attempted to set each nationâs policies in the wider historical context. Each case study links the expansion of psychiatric services âin the communityâ to changes occurring in the health and welfare services generally. In so doing the authors describe and assess the scale of political, financial and planning constraints â" some peculiar to the country, others common to all the countries â" and endeavour to outline the prospects for mental health care in the EC.
