The Book - Man’s Horizons - takes you on an enlightening journey of discovery that begins with the awe-inspiring cosmic explosion of the Big Bang and continues through to the Universe’s last gasp at the end of time. See how the story of Mankind is intricately interwoven into this vast cosmic backdrop.
During your journey, witness the wonders of cosmology as Nature brings planet Earth together to be a viable destination to nurture the seed of life. Follow the path of evolution from its primordial DNA roots through to the rise of Humankind. Be awed by the great determination and ingenuity of our ancient ancestors as they struggle through the ice ages, making use of tools, weapons and fire and creating language to narrowly avoid extinction.
Experience the historical age of conquerors as emerging nations battle for dominance in a desperate bid to determine who will go forth and multiply and who will not. Understand how 70 centuries of human conflict forged the current mindset of the masses to be belligerent, demanding, competitive and materialistic. Consider that this disposition may prove to be disastrous when our leaders make decisions that determine our future.
Come to understand our world, its biosphere and the wondrous life affording bounty of its land, oceans and atmosphere. Appreciate the importance of sustainability, the bio-web and species diversity on a global scale. Take a look at the modern world’s ever mounting challenges as the human population surges toward 10 billion. By all indications we are overrunning Earth’s sustainable capacity whilst recklessly disposing of vast quantities of damaging waste.
As a global community, will we destroy Earth’s fragile biological order and join the extinct species that have been relegated to the fossil record? Or will we rise to the intellectual challenge of our time by going forth, not to multiply but first to colonise new worlds as we reach for the Stars?
Consider ‘Man’s Horizons’ as humanity’s ultimate destiny. We are a unique species that has acquired the technological capability to create the roads that will carry us into the future. Our fate lies at the end of the road chosen! Which road will it be?
Which road will you choose? The destiny of our species lies in your hands! To make an informed decision you should read the book and digest the facts!

Industry Reviews
It has been a privilege observing your thesis develop over the years you spent researching global forces that impact our modern world, culminating in your superb book ‘Man’s Horizons’. I found it an enjoyable read. You uniquely synthesise cosmology, humankind’s history of war and earth’s bio-web, bringing us to a cross-road in time. Will we display the same determination and ingenuity as our ancestors who survived ice ages to perpetuate our species – take the ‘New’ road you present to us – or do we dwindle down the ‘Old’ road to extinction? ‘Man’s Horizons’ is a must-read for any concerned citizen, politician or scholar interested in answering this question.

Man’s Horizons is a book for all the family, but especially for young people entering adulthood. It is an epic work, painstakingly researched and presented lucidly, making for compelling reading. It sets out our development from the beginning of the universe to now, and speculates on the future from here to the eventual end of time. It puts the position of mankind in vivid perspective and poses disturbing possibilities for our future.
In the first part of Man’s Horizons, Mark takes us from the birth of the universe through to the formation of planet Earth. The book then describes the evolution of life from the first struggling cells to the rich diversity of plant and animal life we now enjoy; and finally, man emerges from the forests.
He then sets out, with chilling clarity, Man’s continued development. We have improved our technology, and adopted what we have learned in many ways for the betterment of mankind. At the same time, we have used our advances to more effectively control and persecute our populations (more people are killed through genocide than war), and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of nations’ ability to wage war and destroy each other; from clubs and spears to swords, the sophisticated short bows of the Mongols, guns, bombs, missiles and ultimately the hydrogen bomb. With improved technology we have increased agricultural production and have also exponentially expanded our population. We are now at the cross roads of bitter poverty and high technology.
He then suggests alternatives for our future. We are currently exploiting Earth’s resources at an unsustainable rate and polluting our natural habitats. If we continue down this road, mankind may soon join countless other species in extinction. Alternatively, we may take a longer-term view in meeting our challenges and enjoy the fruits of our continuing development.
The brutal clarity of Man’s horizons and the challenges we face is thought provoking in the extreme!

Man’s Horizons is a fascinating, informing and very enlightening read. The information is incredibly detailed but presented in a way that is easy to absorb. It paints a wonderful recreation about both the origin of the universe and the history of humankind, then extrapolates the data to predict the possible future of our species. Very thought-provoking material.
