"Lovelorn Squids From Outer Space" was recently freed from international censure and found its place alongside similar luminal works kept under lock and key by the gatekeepers of morality and good taste. In other words, it's too much fun to be good for you! The storyline: A down-and-out writer is hired to rehabilitate the reputation of a discredited and deceased bestselling horror novelist and rumored cult-leader of "The Brethren," H. P. Honeycutt. He moves into the former cult headquarters and promptly begins research for the biography. Aiding him is the last surviving member of the cult, who provides and steers him to all the source material available. Unfortunately, some of this source material is tainted with an intermingling of occult and alien technologies: The Bong of Time. Before he has found his footing, the biographer finds himself ping-ponging from the present to 1939, the year the sanity of the world cracked in half, not simply with the first salvos announcing WWII, but the slithering arrival of the Outsiders and a smallish alien invasion. How did the world survive? And why is there no record of the Outsiders' or Aliens?
