Prepare to be spellbound by Jim Kay's dazzling depiction of the wizarding world and much loved characters in this full-colour illustrated hardback edition of the nation's favourite children's book - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Brimming with rich detail and humour that perfectly complements J.K. Rowling's timeless classic, Jim Kay's glorious illustrations will captivate fans and new readers alike.

When a letter arrives for unhappy but ordinary Harry Potter, a decade-old secret is revealed to him that apparently he's the last to know. His parents were wizards, killed by a Dark Lord's curse when Harry was just a baby, and which he somehow survived. Leaving his unsympathetic aunt and uncle for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry stumbles upon a sinister mystery when he finds a three-headed dog guarding a room on the third floor. Then he hears of a missing stone with astonishing powers, which could be valuable, dangerous - or both. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Very nice

Very nice. Already read the books, but I want my daughter to have the one with colored pictures. And she loves it. I read it to her.

Fantastic. Can't wait to give as a present.

arrived quickly. What I expected.

An heirloom book - fantastic introduction to Harry Potter

This is a beautiful book that could be kept for generations. It is a fantastic way of introducing Harry Potter to younger readers. My 6 year old was so enthralled, we've now purchased the next illustrated version in the series. And my four year old even listened and got involved in parts of it. It doesn't have pictures on every page but enough to keep early readers entertained. And the pictures have fantastic details. A really special book.

Beautiful illustrations and quality production

This is a lovely edition that was fantastic to read to my child. He loved it. The illustrations were engaging and of course he loved the story. Will become a book we read over and over.

Beautiful illustrations

Wanted my child to see this before the movie. It is an utter delight. The illustrations are full of life, on almost every page.

I bought this book for my 8 yr old grandson. He loves it

Great illustrations and compelling to read

This book is great.. my grandsons age 11 and 5 enjoy hearing me read this to them..the pictures are an extra bonus for the 5 yr old . The 11 year old will read it alone..but he likes to be read to sometimes as well. If i have them to stay overnight...i know they will enjoy listening to it together. I would definitely recommend it.

"The most handsome and desirable gift book of the year. It is stunning ... with full colour illustrations throughout from Greenaway Medal winner Kay, who breathes incredible life into these much-loved characters and locations, staying faithful to Rowling's vision but revitalising the story for a new generation Bookseller. I've yet to meet a ten-year-old who hasn't been entranced by its witty, complex plot and the character of the eponymous Harry".

"One of the greatest literary adventures of modern times" - Sunday Telegraph

"The Harry Potter stories will join that small group of children's books which are read and reread into adulthood" - Times Literary Supplement

About the Author

J K (Joanne Kathleen) Rowling was born in July 1965 at Yate General Hospital in England and grew up in Chepstow, Gwent where she went to Wyedean Comprehensive.

Jo left Chepstow for Exeter University, where she earned a French and Classics degree, her course including one year in Paris. As a postgraduate she moved to London and worked as a researcher at Amnesty International among other jobs. She started writing the Harry Potter series during a delayed Manchester to London King's Cross train journey, and during the next five years, outlined the plots for each book and began writing the first novel.

Jo then moved to northern Portugal, where she taught English as a foreign language. She married in October 1992 and gave birth to a daughter Jessica in 1993. When the marriage ended, she and Jessica returned to the UK to live in Edinburgh, where Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone was eventually completed.

Jo married Dr. Neil Murray in 2001, and a brother for Jessica, David, was born in 2003. A sister, Mackenzie, followed in 2005.
