About the Authors

Susan Kenny is Emeritus Professor in International and Community Development in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia. She has extensive experience of community development in Australia and internationally. Since the 1970s, as an academic, practitioner, activist and researcher, Susan has observed the continuities and discontinuities in community development theory and practice and the challenges arising from changing social and political landscapes.

Dr Tammy Hand is a social researcher with nearly 20 years’ experience teaching tertiary courses in social and community research and development. She is the Deputy Director of Upstream Australia, a national collective impact backbone organisation that supports a) the development and operations of ‘Community of Schools and Services’ (COSS) collectives implementing the COSS Model in Australia and internationally; and b) place-based, community-level system reforms designed to achieve better social and educational outcomes for vulnerable young people and their families.
