Young heiress Emily Jackson wants to give away her inheritance to worthy causes-but choosing who gets what isn't so simple. Guided by Soho solicitor Leo, still working in his seventies, a panel of ordinary citizens is randomly selected to make the call.

When three panellists are murdered in quick succession Leo calls in Rita, a young and sharp-witted ex-cop now working in security. Their efforts are both helped and hindered by Leo's oldest friend Dennis, who boasts of being the world's most fearless crime reporter. Luckily Leo has the constant support of his partner Marion, a therapist whose sound advice and common sense has earned her an enviable reputation.

With hacked emails, bizarre pranks, a fake crucifixion, and a floral beheading shaking the panel's resolve, Molly-the no-nonsense chair-must hold the group together. And when the killer takes Leo's beloved poodle Pumpernickel hostage, the case becomes even more personal.

Can a quartet (including the dog) who are all still active, despite being over pensionable age, avert a tragedy, apprehend a murderer, and allow the panel to finish their work, which will make the world a better place? They will certainly give it their best shot.
