Chemistry in Focus - Year 11

Chemistry in Focus Year 11 meets the complete requirements of the 2017 NSW NESA Stage 6 Chemistry syllabus in intent, content and sequence. The student book is written in accessible language and has clear, explanations throughout. The scenario-style questions at the end of each module allow students to review, analyse and evaluate content throughout. The text provides learning across all curriculum areas, as detailed in the syllabus and contains a dedicated chapter on how to approach and carry out the Depth Study at Year 11. ‘Working Scientifically’ processes are developed within each investigation, with supporting primary and secondary-sourced investigations, including modelling, are embedded within the content.

About the Author

Roland Smith trained at Queensland and Monash Universities. He worked as a high school Science teacher and CSIRO research scientist before joining the academic staff of Macquarie University in Sydney where he taught and carried out research (into atmospheric pollution and the ozone hole) for 28 years. He left the university in 1996 to pursue writing and consulting interests. He is the author of several senior-school chemistry texts that have been widely used in NSW and Queensland for more than two decades.

Anna Davis is the science coordinator at Casimir Catholic College. She is a past president of both the Science Teachers’ Association of New South Wales and the Australian Science Teachers’ Association. She was awarded the 2006 Prime Minister’s Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Secondary Schools.
