While individual laboratory research is the backbone of collecting experimental data in psychology, a rapidly increasing amount of research is turning to large-scale and real-world data that is available online. Crowdsourcing, mega databases, social media and genetic/neural data are allowing researchers to evaluate their theoretical models and make new discoveries at a resolution not previously possible. In fact, it is increasingly becoming apparent that big data is going to be the core of a 'paradigm revolution' in experimental psychology.
