Note: This book is a continuation of Autodesk® Inventor® 2027: Introduction to Solid Modeling Part 1. Both books are required to learn all fundamental-level Inventor skills.

The print version of this guide is printed in black and white with images in grayscale.

The Autodesk® Inventor® 2027: Introduction to Solid Modeling Part 1 and Part 2 guides provide new Autodesk Inventor users with an understanding of the parametric design philosophy through a hands-on, practice-intensive curriculum. In the Part 2 guide, you will continue on from the part modeling experience you gained in the Part 1 guide to learn assembly design techniques and how to create production drawings of your models.

It is highly recommended that you complete the Part 1 guide (sold separately) prior to using Part 2.

Topics Covered in Part 2

  • Placing and constraining/connecting parts in assemblies
  • Manipulating the display of components in an assembly
  • Obtaining model measurements and property information
  • Creating presentation files (exploded views)
  • Modifying and analyzing the components in an assembly
  • Simulating motion in an assembly
  • Creating parts and features in assemblies
  • Creating and editing an assembly bill of materials
  • Working with projects
  • Creating and annotating drawings and views
  • Customizing the Autodesk Inventor environment

Prerequisites

  • Access to the 2027.0 version of the software, to ensure compatibility with this learning content. Future software updates that are released by Autodesk may include changes that are not reflected in this content. The practices and files included are not compatible with prior versions of the software (e.g., 2026).
  • As introductory guides, Autodesk Inventor 2027: Introduction to Solid Modeling Part 1 and Part 2 do not assume prior knowledge of any 3D modeling or CAD software. The Part 1 guide should be completed prior to using the Part 2 guide.
  • Experience with the Windows operating system and a background in drafting of 3D parts is recommended.
