The first volume of Stanislavski's enduring trilogy on the art of acting defines the "System", a means of mastering the craft of acting and of stimulating the actor's individual creativeness and imagination.

About the Author

Konstantain Sergeievich Stanislavski (1863-1938) was one of the most influential actors, directors and drama theorists of his day. He co-founded the influential Moscow Art Theatre and was part of its European and American tours. He helped to promote the works of Russian writers such as Anton Chekhov and his writings on acting were widely read, entrenching his "System" as one of the primary approaches to acting. He died in Moscow, not far from the theatre.
