AMANDA PARADISE is the culmination of the (soma)tic poetry ritual "Resurrect" and their experience of living on the road for seven years while writing the resulting poems.
Their last book, While Standing in Line for Death,won a 2018 Lambda Book Award. They also received a 2019 Creative Capital grant and a Pew Arts and Heritage Foundation Fellowship, the Believer Magazine Book Award, and the Gil Ott Book Award.
Their previous books have received praise from the Publishers Weekly, Boston Globe, Boston Review, BOMB, Huffington Post, Believer, and HTML Giant, among others.
CAConrad has a strong international presence and presented a TED-talk about their ecopoetics practice for a global event around climate change. CA has deep connections to the poetry and visual art communities in UK & Europe, Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands and during non-pandemic times has traveled abroad multiple times a year and continues to do virtual events for overseas venues.
These poems are deeply concerned with trauma and healing, on a personal as well as a macro level. They speak directly to the COVID pandemic as well as the AIDS pandemic, often drawing parallels between the two.
The exercises are unconcerned with cultural taboos and are deeply in touch with the body and its extension into social/environmental/political realms. This book will be exciting to teach for anyone interested in politics, aesthetic boundaries, group practice, and LGBTQI discussion.
With over 11K followers on Twitter and maxed out at 5K friends on Facebook, CAConrad has a cultlike following. Their web presence is an invaluable asset in promoting this book.
They regularly teach at Columbia University in New York City and Sandberg Art Institute in Amsterdam.
