A decades-old military surrender in the wake of the Bosnian War comes back to haunt a retired operative in this fast-paced, high-stakes political thriller.
In May 1996, in the fragile aftermath of the Bosnian Civil War, seven Bosniak men hiding in the mountains surrendered to U.S. peacekeepers and UN monitors. Handed over to local Bosnian Serb police, the men—who became known as the "Zvornik 7"—were subjected to torture and unfair trials.
Thirty years later, former covert intelligence operative Will Oleson is living a quiet life as a nature photographer in the remote Northwoods of Wisconsin. His peaceful retirement is shattered when the FBI recruits him to photograph a secret meeting at an exclusive local ranch—only for a high-value target to be executed by a silenced sniper shot right in front of his lens.
As Will investigates the assassination alongside FBI agents, a chilling truth emerges: someone is systematically hunting down and murdering every surviving military member, diplomat, and observer involved in the historic Zvornik 7 surrender. Worse yet, Will's own former operative identity is on the killer's list—and so is Kari Dahm, a Green Bay news director and Will's long-lost college flame who covered the story in 1996.
Reunited by being targets and shared history, Will and Kari must race against time across the Midwest to piece together a trail of revenge stretching from Srebrenica to Wisconsin. But with an elusive sniper closing in on his ultimate high-profile target—the Speaker of the House—Will must draw on every ounce of his old tactical training before the past takes its final, deadly toll.
Perfect for fans of Lee Child, Vince Flynn, and intricate military suspense, Z7 is a tense, gripping novel where foreign war crimes and modern-day vengeance collide in America's heartland.
