Out at the edges of galaxies, the visible matter stops accounting for the motion. Stars orbit too fast, and they have done so in every rotation curve measured since the 1970s. That much is settled. The interesting part is less often said plainly: the discrepancy does not switch on at a fixed distance, or at a fixed mass. It switches on at a fixed acceleration, about 1.2 x 10^-10 meters per second squared - roughly the speed a snail might gain in a year of patient effort. Giant spirals, faint dwarfs, gas-rich disks and bulge-heavy ones all turn at the same threshold. And that threshold sits suspiciously close to a number built from the expansion rate of the universe itself.

Nobody knows why.

Where Newton Ends is a map of that open problem. It lays four serious research programs side by side - dark matter halos, modified dynamics, emergent and entropic gravity, and screened scalar fields - and shows where each one reaches and where each one stops. It does not stitch them into a unified picture, because the stitching is the thing not yet earned.

Every claim carries a tag: FACT for what is established, OPEN for what is genuinely unsolved, PICTURE for a metaphor that illuminates without deriving. Two computational chapters end with short, deterministic Python verifications a reader can run on the page, and the data-driven figures are regenerable from public SPARC measurements through an archived capsule of code. Two of the author's own papers are reproduced as appendices, with one of them placing a falsifiable bet on how the acceleration scale behaves across cosmic time - a bet the book reports honestly as currently unsupported by the author's own preregistered tests.

A book about a number, an honest question, and a wall that is named as a wall.
