INTRODUCTION: I’m not one to venture away from well-worn paths, but every once in a while I take off my shoes and run through the wilder parts, just to experience what the other side offers.
When I first started writing, it was poetry. I did not realize that was what I was writing. I thought poetry had to rhyme and had to follow rules. I was not interested in rules. What I did was journal thoughts and feelings I was experiencing. I started experimenting with my voice here in these tender pages, writing boundless poetry during the fundamental years when I did not know how else to express my emotions. It helped me deal and I found it therapeutic. Some of the best lyrics and heartfelt poems come from these moments of despair and reflection.
I have had many dark days, though not many people would recognize it on the surface. I’m a positive and friendly person who manages perfectly fine in a crowd and on a stage. That does not make me immune to the voices of doubt and self-worth.
Instead of running, I embraced the dark and wrote poetry.
Search for the power to overcome it. Wonder beyond what you see. Get lost in emotions you lock away to find your creative path again.
