Even though he escaped the gas chambers, he was never truly free.

In occupied Poland, there are whispers of a terrifying darkness in the northern forests. When a young Lodzi Ashstein learns the horrifying truth about the Treblinka extermination camp, he is kidnapped and tormented by a senior SS officer, Janich Heiss. After a prisoner uprising, Heiss disappears into the woods and Lodzi is left with nothing but his nightmares and the eternal scars of a survivor.

More than 70 years later, Heiss has been mysteriously murdered, and Lodzi is accused of a crime of revenge. When attorney Thaddeus Murfee takes the case to trial, he unearths a startling trove of evidence that has the power to change everything. But can he bring the truth to light in time to save Lodzi from another nightmare?

Industry Reviews

"Where to begin? I guess the easiest is to say that this is the best thing this author has written and I love all his work. It is radically different than the previous books and while loosely still a legal thriller, that is really a sub-plot to the main story. The meat of the book is the redemption of some and the condemnation of others or, in more Biblical terms - evil looses in the end."

"Wow! Now that Poland has made their complicity in the Nazi genocide a forbidden topic, we need a powerful reminder of those times. Unspeakable Prayers is one. Although it's fiction, it's one of the best depictions of that era and the suffering I've read. I like the fact that the story continues into the present, and that justice served very cold can still be a triumph.
I love John Ellsworth, his writing is wonderful, and although I can't pick a favorite among his work, this one is probably his most powerful."

"This is a wonderful fictional story. It's heart-rending & terrifying in its depiction of the inhumane brutality & depravity in the extermination camp called Treblinka. I kept asking myself "How could they do that? How could they justify their actions in their own minds?" The part concerning Treblinka was difficult to read, but I persevered."

"John Elsworth does a marvelous job of detailing the horrors of the German Nazi concentration camps by relation of a story of two survivors and how they did it. This is very graphic and should be known. The horror is followed by the trek to America and the struggle to obtain independence and make their lives worthwhile., The villain is the Commander of the camp who escaped to America and the heroes find him to attempt to reckon with him, It is a fantastic read that I read on my Kindle form Amazon. I really enjoyed this one."
