A harrowing story of shell-shocked survivors of war and how people face danger and loss. Author Scott Anderson is a war photographer who has been to and photographed some of the world's forgotten wars.

Industry Reviews

When the doctor comes around the ward - a cave in Kurdistan - he hands out red, yellow and blue tags to the casualties lying motionless on the ground: red, you get treated; yellow, you get pushed aside; blue, you're taken outside and shot, because time and space are at a premium. This is the practice known as triage, and is one with which war reporter Mark Walsh is familiar. But when he ends up there as a casualty himself, things are suddenly much more threatening. This novel, written by one who has seen at first hand the realities of war and speaks its language, explores what happens to a man who is selected to live, and how he deals with the aftermath of those traumas once he gets home. Compelling and intriguing. (Kirkus UK)
