These Deadly Sins

As a Mencari, Evren knew three things for certain: how to lie, how to kill, and to never, under any circumstances, trust the Gods. They had abandoned her-left her alone in a realm of monsters. But as Fate should have it, she was one of those monsters now, trained in the art of death and deception.

Her freedom had never truly been her own, and with a mistress such as hers, she was more than accustomed to being used for her skills. When a neighboring kingdom offers to take her away from it all in exchange for her services, she is faced with a promise of freedom she never imagined. The only issue? The two bargain marks now inked upon her skin, a sign of the death warrant she sealed.

But there is more at play than bargains. Tensions are rising in Natyria: Alynthi is turning on itself, Mortala is crumbling, and the other kingdoms of the realm must soon pick a side. Rebellion is at Mortala's doorstep, and Evren just might be the only one who can stop it. Faced with the reality of her situation, she must decide-kill the king, or stop the war for a chance at freedom. But the marks on her flesh mean that either choice will inevitably end the same way: no matter what, she shall greet Death himself.
