Originally published in 1944, "The Wind in the Moon" is a topsy-turvy fantasy about two naughty sisters and their amazing adventures that begin in the village of Midmeddlecum and continue on the other side of the English Channel.
Industry Reviews
For the intangible but real Linklater market, this is another of his adroit adult fantasies, a story of magic potions, animals who talk, and two young heroines' rescue of their father from a tyrant's dungeon. ??Sot in England - an obscure satiric theme in the names of the characters and the fantastic situations that arise. Based on the superstition that when the moon is pale and has a circle of mist around it, there ?? wind on the moon - if it be an evil wind, all bad children will be bad for a long time. Dinah and Dorinda are warned by their father who is leaving on foreign service; they promptly set out to be bad with the aid of Mrs. Gimble?? who gives them a magic potion to turn them into kangaroos. In the Zoo they learn animal language and befriend a puma and a falcon. Restored to children again, they rescue their music teacher from prison and then dash off to rescue their father from his dungeon. A mad tale. (Kirkus Reviews)
