The refrigerator cycles on every forty-five minutes. The radiator hisses at dawn. The fever creates a loop.
The Static Inventory is not a story about surviving a crisis. It is a document of the days spent doing nothing at all.
Confined to a single room during a week of minor illness, the narrator becomes a recording device for the invisible mechanics of apartment living. Stripped of the usual filters of health and routine, the world dissolves into a series of jagged sensory inputs: the vibration of a phone on the floorboards, the geometric infinite of a folded sheet, the taste of stale water, and the aggressive banality of a neighbor's footsteps.
Written in a style of radical sensory immersion, this collection of essays rejects metaphor in favor of raw data. It explores the "fugue state" of the sickbed where time stretches, objects lose their meaning, and the only reality is the heat in the chest and the dust on the fan blades.
A study in texture, sound, and the quiet disorientation of being human, The Static Inventory asks what remains when the noise of the world is finally turned down.
