In the tradition of Jennifer McMahon and Victor LaValle, in Melanie Golding's newest thriller, a woman who can predict anyone's death has a vision of herself committing a murder-and must figure out a way to stop it from happening.
Ten-year-old Faith thought her entire life would revolve around the traveling circus; her pony, Macha; and her friends and family. When her brother and his friend drown after falling into a lake, it's clear that fate had other plans for her-especially when she dreamed of the tragic accident before it happened. Once her extremely superstitious family learns of the dream, they threaten to kick her out of the troupe forever. That's when Faith takes matters in her own hands-she attempts, but fails, at blinding herself leaving her broken and scarred. But soon, she realizes that she can harness her new ability. And for the next twelve years, she manages to control it, and, more importantly, keep it a secret.
But all of that changes when a death she predicted is caught on camera and is shared on social media. The police soon start investigating Faith after they take interest in her prediction. Knowing she can't stay with her family or the circus any longer with the publicity that she's getting, she goes on the run. Together with her friend Betsy at her side, the two decide to start over and turn Faith's curse into an opportunity by starting a death prediction service.
Business is booming as the two know that rich clients will pay any price to have information on their own death. But when Faith comes across a down-on-his-luck soldier, she predicts that she'll be the one responsible for his murder. Facing a crisis like never before, Faith wonders: if she can predict a deadly future, can she also change it?
