The Range

'A rebellious celebration of the singularity, and mystery of humankind. We need more fiction like Nors's' CHARLOTTE WOOD, NEW YORK TIMES

From the International Booker Prize-shortlisted author of Mirror, Shoulder, Signal.

Celebrated professor of astrophysics, Gunn Haven, has often found people stranger and more frightening than space. Back in the rural landscape of her childhood, she sets out with a thermos of coffee in her rucksack and a telescope trained on the night sky, to study celestial bodies, only to find herself pulled back into earthly lives.

Glowing orbs drift down her garden path, revealing themselves as inquisitive neighbours. Her phone buzzes not with satellite signals, but with messages from her much-missed young prot©g©e. And then there is the Gable Woman: a local adversary, enraged after catching Gunn on private property, whose determination to settle the score grows more menacing by the day.

Atmospheric and intellectually expansive, Range explores the inexorable forces that at once draw us towards one another, and send us spinning away.
