The Men He Loved-A Journey to Acceptance by David Wallace is a gay romance novel that spans four decades, beginning in 1977 in the hills of Western Pennsylvania. In a deeply evangelical Christian world where queer people are ridiculed or erased, Jeff Walters is taught to deny what he feels-until love changes everything.

Across his journey, Jeff falls in love with five men, building a life of longing, desire, and connection. He navigates homophobia in his home town, the pressures of heteronormativity in a rural community, and the heartbreak of forming-and losing-a found family. Along the way, he witnesses the emergence of Boystown in Chicago, experiments with drag, feels the effects of the HIV/AIDS crisis, and lives through complicated romance and desire, including an affair with a married man, dating a porn star, and more. His story challenges the usual notions of what love should be as well as the conventions of M/M romance novels.

Ultimately, this is an aspirational love story about resilience and courage-one that leads Jeff Walters back toward himself and toward a quiet acceptance with his minister father. Romantic, grounded, and emotionally honest, The Men He Loved celebrates what becomes possible when a gay man stops living by fear and starts choosing love on his own terms.
