Bill is ninety-nine years old when a young woman he barely recognizes returns a journal he lost decades ago-a small green notebook with a Snoopy sticker on the cover.

And the memories begin.

The Last Revision traces a life across continents and decades-from a childhood shaped by movement and uncertainty, through a hard-won coming out, years of solitude in New York City, and a late and enduring love. As Bill reflects on the life he has lived, he revisits the past from its imagined end.

Moving fluidly between memory and reconstruction, the novel presents a life as it might be remembered-assembled, reconsidered, and, at times, quietly revised. What emerges is a meditation on time, identity, and the stories we tell ourselves in order to understand a life.

Industry Reviews

"A story that will linger in the mind and memory of the reader long after he has finished the novel and set it back upon the shelf." - Midwest Book Review

"Readers who enjoyed Mitch Albom's Tuesdays with Morrie will recognize a similar interest in aging, mortality, relationships, and the lessons that become clearer near the end of life. Smith's novel, however, covers a broader and more idiosyncratic landscape." - Literary Titan Gold Book Award

"Reads like a very intimate conversation with a man who has nothing left to hide." - Readers' Favorite^®, 5-star review

"Like finding a box of old Polaroids in an attic and flipping through them with your grandfather." - Readers' Favorite^®, 5-star review

"Balances the heartfelt moments with the heartbreaking. Well written and immersive." - Readers' Favorite^®, 5-star review

"Compelling. I wanted to know more from the very start." - T.J. Elliott, author of Retrospective
