Detective Harry Hole finds himself up against a terrifying serial killer in this thriller by internationally bestselling Jo Nesbo

Dive into the twist-filled world of detective Harry Hole

The mark of the devil
A young woman is murdered in her flat and a tiny red diamond in the shape of a five-pointed star is found behind her eyelid.

The sign of a killer
Detective Harry Hole is assigned to the case, alongside his long-time adversary Tom Waaler, and initially wants no part in it. But Harry is already on his final warning and has little alternative but to drag himself out of his alcoholic stupor when it becomes apparent that Oslo has a serial killer on its hands.

Is this an evil that only Harry Hole can stop?

About the Author

Jo Nesbo played football for Norway's premier league team Molde, but his dream of playing professionally for Spurs was dashed when he tore ligaments in his knee at the age of eighteen. After three years military service he attended business school and formed the band Di derre ('Them There'). Their second album topped the charts in Norway, but he continued working as a financial analyst, crunching numbers during the day and gigging at night.

When commissioned by a publisher to write a memoir about life on the road with his band, he instead came up with the plot for his first Harry Hole crime novel, The Bat. He is regarded as one of the world's leading crime writers, with The Leopard, Phantom, Police and The Son all topping the UK bestseller charts, and his novels are published in 48 languages.
