A spellbinding story set in Cardinal Richelieu's FranceIt's more than 100 years before the Revolution and France is beset with enemies. The Thirty Years' War has spread across Europe. Alliances are strained and enemies are everywhere. It is a fragile kingdom ruled by Louis XIII but the real power behind the throne, the feared and loathed Cardinal Richelieu, is ailing and in declining health. Despite Richelieu's famed network of spies, maintaining power is becoming a daily struggle. In these turbulent times, help can arrive in the most unlikely ways. Sebastian Morra, born into poverty and with terrible deformities, is a dwarf on a mission. His razor sharp mind and boundless courage have taken him far from his family and his village to Paris and the Royal Court where his time as court jester is both eventful and dangerous. He makes enemies easily, but when he is drawn into the twilight world of Cardinal Richelieu, he finds that only he has the talents that might just save France from her deadliest foes. The Cardinal's Man is a spellbinding story of France in the time of Richelieu and provides us with a very different kind of hero, a dwarf with the wit of Tyrion Lannister and the courage of several lions.
Industry Reviews

"The author tells us that Sebastian lived from 1610-1672, finally became court dwarf to Philip IV of Spain, and was included in a painting by Velazquez, which now hangs in the Prado in Madrid. Nothing is known about him so this story, although it is based on historical events and characters, is fiction, as the author mentions in her notes. Even so, it comes across with great authenticity and keeps the pages turning. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would certainly recommend it." --Historical Novel Society

"Gritty and lively . . . a colourful depiction of 17th century France." --Carol Birch, author, Jamrach's Menagerie
